Reading #6: Past and Past Perfect.

### **The Lost Key**

Last weekend, I **decided** to clean my room. I **hadn’t cleaned** it for weeks, so it was quite messy. As I **was organizing** my desk, I **found** an old key. I **had forgotten** where it came from, but it **looked** familiar.

I **remembered** that a few months ago, I **had bought** a small lockbox to store some important documents. At the time, I **had put** the key in a safe place, but I **couldn’t recall** where. Now, after finding the key, I **realized** I **had misplaced** the lockbox too.

I **searched** everywhere—under the bed, in the closet, and even in the kitchen drawers. Finally, I **found** the lockbox hidden behind some books on the shelf. I **had placed** it there when I **had moved** to this apartment a year ago.

When I **opened** the lockbox, I **discovered** some old photos and letters. I **hadn’t seen** them in years, and they **brought** back so many memories. It **was** a nostalgic moment, and I **felt** grateful for finding the key and the lockbox.

### **Tenses Explanation:**
1. **Past Tense**: Used for actions that happened at a specific time in the past (decided, found, remembered, searched, opened).
2. **Past Perfect Tense**: Used for actions that happened **before** another past action (hadn’t cleaned, had forgotten, had bought, had put, had misplaced, had placed, hadn’t seen).

This structure helps show the sequence of events clearly. Let me know if you'd like more examples! 😊
